Connie was born August 8, 1942, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of William E. and Alice M. Sparks Page. She was very proud of her heritage. Her mom was Irish, and her dad was Native American, Osage tribe.
She was a graduate of Frankford Missouri High School and attended Hannibal LaGrange University.
Raised on a farm, she had a great fondness for animals her entire life, from raising, training and riding horses in rodeos in her youth, to raising, training and showing dogs in shows at various State Fairgrounds and other venues throughout the Midwest and “The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.” She won numerous competitions even after she became wheelchair bound. Her favorites were Boston Terriers. They were her “kids.”
Throughout her career she worked for several companies in the Hannibal-Quincy area and enjoyed talking about the celebrities she met during those years including Dan Blocker and US astronauts. But her crowning achievement was being the owner and manager of Connie’s Gentle Hand Dog Grooming Parlor in Quincy, Illinois. She had customers from throughout the tri-state area, and several other states, who were loyal to her because of the quality grooming and loving care she provided every dog who came in.
Connie was a member of the Quincy Kennel Club and a Life Member of the Hawkeye Boston Terrier Club of Iowa. She loved the Villa Kathrine in Quincy and was a member of Friends of the Castle.
She was a member of the Quincy University Heritage Society and always looked forward to the Spring Scholarship Lunch with students and Christmas Mass in the University Chapel. She fondly remembers recognition she received at the QU Scholarship Luncheon in 2008 when it was announced she was establishing a scholarship fund.
She was talented in oil painting and ceramics, and her oil paintings have been included in exhibits in several venues including the Quincy Art Center. For fun, she went skydiving in her spare time, and later enjoyed trips to Colorado after retiring.
She was a very caring person and often provided free or reduced prices to clients facing financial troubles. She donated her organs at death and willed her estate to establish a scholarship fund to help students from Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch in Shelbina MO attend Quincy University.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Bill Page. She is survived by nephews Roger (Shelby) Page and Gary (Cathy) Page.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Connie L. Page Endowed Scholarship Fund at Quincy University in care of Grand View Funeral Home.
