Dale Oliver Horner, 98, of Hannibal, MO, died at 6:07 a.m. on January 4, 2018, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Funeral services will be January 8, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. with Matt Ver Meer officiating.
Dale was born on April 2, 1919, in Packwood, IA, the son of Harry and Chloe Smith Horner. He married Doris Rethorn on April 12, 1951, and she survives.
His parents, three brothers, Marion, Carroll and Lloyd; and a sister, Thelma Hostetter, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Dale W. Horner and Robert (Larissa) Horner; two daughters, Terry (Carl) Egbers and Karen Borrowman (Larry Lewton); and ten grandchildren, Elissa, Andrea, Kali, Kelsey, Justin, Rachel, Jeremy, Madison, Cole, and Kane; and six great grandchildren.
Dale served as Chief Yeoman in the US Navy during WWII. After the war, he continued his military service as a recruiting agent for the US Naval Reserve and retired after 20 years. He began his business career working for the Rendlen Law Firm before starting his own tax preparation company, Horner Tax Service, which he operated for 45 years. None of this took away from his love of cattle and farming which he enjoyed throughout his life. Dale loved baseball, playing as a catcher for local leagues, and was also a huge Cardinals fan.
Condolences may be sent to [email protected]. Memorials maybe given to the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55 and the First Presbyterian Church.
