Gilbert Henry Wendt, 83, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 5:55 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Gilbert was born February 24, 1934 in Hannibal, son of Henry and Florence (Frantz) Wendt. He married Patricia A. King on January 31, 1959, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Hannibal. She died January 19, 2011.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Friday June 2, 2017, at the Grand View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 3, 2017, at 11 am at the Grand View Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse Patricia King Wendt, a sister Betty Jean Miller, and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita J. Seibert (Alan), Belleville, IL, Terri J Gallinger (Marty), St Louis, MO and Stacey L Waechter (Bill), Hermann, MO; seven grandchildren, Angela Marsden (Remy), Andy Seibert, Bailey Waechter, William Waechter, Nick Waechter, Allison Waechter and Olivia Waechter; one great-grandchild Liam Marsden; a nephew, Steven Miller (Darcia), Hannibal MO; and two nieces, Karen Wright, Dallas , TX and Susan Miller, Houston TX. The family extends a very special thank you to Greg and Kathy Keim & family for their many years of support and love to Mr. Wendt.
Gilbert was a graduate of Hannibal High School, received an Associate Degree from Hannibal-LaGrange and his Bachelor's Degree from Culver Stockton College. Gilbert was then drafted and served our country in the US Army and was stationed at the Presidio army base in San Francisco, CA. Gilbert worked with his father at the Wendt-Sonis Tool Company, was a recreational pilot, and was currently owner and operator of Wendt Farm and Realty in Hannibal Mo. Over many years Gilbert enjoyed farming, traveling, loved spending time with his family, the outdoors, and barbecuing. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a very hard working, loving, devoted, caring husband, father, and friend that loved a challenge, and was known for his famous quote "don't worry we'll figure it out". Gilbert could fix anything, a true "jack of all trades."
Gilbert was a member of First Christian Church in Hannibal.
Pallbearers will be Steven Miller, Greg Keim, Andy Seibert, William Waechter, Jim Mulhern, and Bill Craigmiles.
