Leona M. Hill, a beloved educator, cherished wife, and doting mother, entered eternal rest on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Cedarhurst of Springfield, MO.
Visitation celebrating Leona's Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Grand View Funeral Home. Leona will be laid to rest during following the funeral in the Grand View Burial Park.
Leona was born on May 17, 1936, in Hannibal, MO, the loving daughter of John and Elsie M. (Ruby) Nelson.
She was untied in marriage to the love of her life, Leo Hill on June 27, 1952, in Hannibal, MO.
Family was the centerpiece of Leona's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Leo Hill; her sons, Gerald Hill (Rosanna) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jeff Hill (Marianne) of France, and Jay Hill (Judy) of Millers Creek, NC; and her daughter, Julie Zinner (Chuck) of Springfield, MO. Leona took immense pride in her grandchildren: Steffani Hill, Jennifer Cahoon (Matt), Joshua Zinner (Kristen), Joann Bliss, Sarah Phillips (Ryan), and Jonathan Hill (Robin). She was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, bringing her joy and happiness throughout her life.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John Nelson; and her sisters, Betty Greer and Bonnie Dohrn. Their presence in her life was a cherished one, and their memories will continue to live on through her family.
Leona graduated from Hannibal High School before pursuing higher education at Northwest Missouri State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. Her career as a special education teacher at Hannibal Middle School was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her students, she was a loving, caring educator who always went the extra mile to nurture children in need.
Leona leaves behind treasured memories, passionately engaging in hobbies that included quilting, cross stitch, crocheting, and tending to her beautiful flower beds. She loved nothing more than traveling across the United States, Israel, Europe, and Hawaii with Leo, creating lasting memories together. A faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, her faith guided her immensely and shaped the way she interacted with those around her.
Leona M. Hill will forever remain in our hearts, embodying a spirit of service and love that touched countless lives. Her memory will be a guiding light for her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
