Mildred R Smith

Mildred R Smith, age 90, of Moscow Mills, MO, formerly of Hannibal, passed away at 7:35 am Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Elsberry Health Care Center. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, January 13, 2025 at Grand View Funeral Home. Her Granddaughter Sarah will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park. 

A visitation celebrating Mildred's life will be held at 1:00 pm until time of service Monday January 13, 2025 at the Grand View Funeral Home. 

Mildred was born on January 27, 1934, in Hannibal, Missouri to Leslie and Ruby Fay (Sykes) Scheiner.

Mildred is survived by two Daughters, Sherry Sinclair of Alton, IL, Martine Griffith (Larry) of Troy, MO; Two Sons, Gary Smith of Silex, MO, Philip Smith of Troy, MO; Grandson, Zachary Griffith (Nikki); Three Granddaughters, Leah Craig (Jerry), Erica Asmussem (Jim), and Sarah Spence; Six great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Ruby; a Brother, Charles Scheiner; Two Sisters, Helen Scheiner, Mary Scheiner Norman; Two Granddaughters, Kimberly Smith, Brittany Spence; and Grandson, Brandon Haler. 

Mildred was known to have a fiery, some would say stubborn, personality. It was her way or the highway. Yet, once you got passed that tough exterior you would find a person who would do anything for anyone, especially her family. She had a smile for all that she met and would make you feel right at home. Growing up on the family farm she developed a love for flowers, gardening, and being outdoors. She loved taking long walks, especially in the woods. She worked at nurseries during the summer. She loved being in the sun so she could get a suntan and she didn’t like anything with water due to her brother drowning. Mildred had a special talent for art and loved to draw and paint. She enjoyed listening to George Jones and Conway Twitty. The holidays were her favorite and she would make sure that all her kids and grandkids had something special. It didn't matter if it was Christmas or Valentines day, she was ready to gift.
